Egmont Deer Stud Farm was first established in 1979, being the first licensed in Taranaki, New Zealand, to farm Red deer. The original stock was sourced from Waiwarapa herds. Special emphasis was placed on good dual purpose bloodlines, both for velvet and venison production.
In 1984 Egmont became involved with the importation of especially selected sires from Europe, where many Parks had deer breeding histories dating back some 200 years.
